What are school physicals?

School physicals are medical exams required by many schools throughout Texas as part of the admission process. These physicals include a report to be completed by your provider that includes information about your child’s:

  • General health
  • Immunization record
  • Medical history
  • Health problems (if applicable)
  • Special needs (if applicable)

These school physicals help make sure your child is safe and healthy for school and any extracurricular activities they might participate in. You may also need a special school physical if your child participates in sports.

How do I prepare for school physicals?

Seeing children from age 12 and up, your provider at Clinica San Miguel talks to you about how you should prepare yourself and your child for their school physical. 

The team recommends you first talk to your child about the exam and what they can expect. This helps take out some of the fear your child may have and improve their comfort level during the routine exam.

What happens during school physicals?
